Kim Kargbo, Director of Accessible Hope International writes:

There are 1 Billion people in the world with disability.  That is an overwhelming number. But what is even more staggering is the fact that only about 5% of those people have had the opportunity to hear the Gospel.  That is 950 million people who have been barred from access to the message of hope through Jesus.  People who have been barred from access because they are not deemed worthy to be included–like Blind Bartimaeus who just wanted to be seen but was told to shut up and not bother Jesus. (Mark 10:46-52)

That means 950 million people have not heard that they are made in the image of a loving, Creator God, who has a purpose and a plan for each one of them.  950 million have not heard that they have inherent value and work, because they are made in the image of God himself.  950 million have not heard the Jesus died for their sins too – that they might have eternal life with perfect bodies, after their life-long struggle with the effect of the fall.  Hundreds of millions of people who don’t know the Father’s love for them because they are barred from access to education, health care, community and the church.

This can change–and it must!

Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few”, (Luke 10:2).  We all can attest to this!  I was overwhelmed, however, when I read of the need for those with disability.  Let us seek to include those who are differently-abled into our programs.  What a joy it will be when we see our friends and loved ones leaping, dancing and bowing at the feet of Jesus!
